10 Keys to Personal Power
Brian Tracy
Key 1: Clarity
"Have vision. Determine what you want to be, do or have in life. Have a sense of direction and know where you’re going. If you do not have clear specific goals in life, you are doomed forever to work for others who do." Clarity relates to thought. If your thoughts are unclear if you don’t understand something or you can’t express yourself clearly because your thinking is ambiguous then the world reflects that back to you. It’s so important to have clarity if you want to achieve specific results or manifest specific things or situations in your life. A lack of clarity in communication can do a great deal of damage. Clarity, is at the heart of my coaching engagements. You need to gain increasing clarity about yourself and your situation so you can take the right actions to get where you want to go and not keep getting tripped up all the time."Mindfulness is about love and loving life. When you cultivate this love, it gives you clarity and compassion for life, and your actions happen in accordance with that."
Key 2: Competence
"If you commit to excellence, opportunities will always come your way. The harder you work, the better you get." Being able to be competence is great because it allows you to do your work quickly and efficiently. It will also set an example for yourself because if you work hard you'll better yourself. If you set your mind to be competence then you'll most likely be successful. If you are competence then opportunities will come to you. The opportunities will come but if you do not take advantage of it then you won't be successful. One person that I watch every time he plays is very competence. His name is Brandon Ingram. He's the forward for the Los Angeles Lakers and Brandon has the mindset of competence because in one year of being in the league he has improved drastically from 9 points to 16 points. He's competence because of he worked on his game over the offseason. His coaches said that he was in the gym every day working on his game to be better. He's been grinding and having that competence mindset of working hard and efficiently.
Key 3: Concentration
"Make the best use of your time. Ask yourself “Is this the best use of my time?” before you start anything."Focus on what you need to. It is easy to be distracted, especially in modern society. So much technology and entertainment to play with that we find ourselves running into daily distractions. What have you done for yourself today? Each thing you do affects you and mainly you because they are your choices. So next time you feel you are falling behind, that is your body telling you that you need to do better. On the bus, read that book you had assigned. In the shower , recite the amendments you had to memorize. When you’re having lunch jot down your to-do list to recognize where your new found energy will be directed. Life is short, and wasting time on planning it means failing in living it.
Key 4: Common Sense
Key 7: Consistency
"Dependable, steady predictable work is always superior to fast spurts of work."Be consistent in your relationships, your family, friends, your boss, your work. Be the person that people can depend upon. That if you say you’ll do something you do it.."
"No success is possible without commitment. The ability to commit yourself whole heartily is the basis of achieving all success.""Become totally absorbed in your work. Be totally committed."Being committed to the work you are doing means giving your entire devotion and focus on the goal. Scientist devote their lives to research and this research is what drives their passion for doing what they do. This kind of focus should be applied to anything an individual seeks to accomplish and their accomplishment will seem to be accomplished much faster than expected. Practice makes permanent, this practice can forever become a habit and a way of life fr the individual that is doing what they are supposed to do.
Key 9: Courage
"The fear of failure is the single greatest reason for failure in life." Out all the keys to personal power I think courage is the most valuable key yet. Courage not only the guts to something, but it gives the confidence to something. I don't really like this quote because my worst fear is the fear of failure. "The fear of failure is the single greatest reason for failure in life". Although it is used in a negative connotation I use the fear of failure as motivation. I can watching a segment on NBA TV where 18 year old Devin Booker said his worst fear was the fear to fail. Now a few years later he is a borderline All Star, because he used that quote in a positive way and worked hard to get better. That is why I try to used that quote in a positive way because can better yourself in life. I can also see the other perspective that people who are fail will never learn from their mistakes. It doesn't matter how you use the quote, as long as you use it with a positive attitude and courage. I try to be courageous because it shows people you are confident. Confidence can go a long way when used well.
Key 10: Confidence
"You only get confidence by doing things over and over again ."Having confidence to do things is instrumental in accomplishing goals. Confidence allows you to do things you didn't think you could have done. It's basketball players shoot free throws in the clutch. Their confidence has to be at an all time high to sink those free throws. People who less confident in themselves often miss the free throws. I always try to be confident when doing anything because it shows yourself as if you are the alpha. Having confidence gives me the energy to be more vocal. I believe that confidence is acquired by practice doing it all the time, making it habit. By making it the norm then you'll always have confidence. I am not the most confident guy in the world, but I watch people that are which then gives me confidence. I watch D'Angelo Russell who has a lot of confidence which make him a near all star type of player when healthy. I try to get certain traits from certain people like the hardworking trait from my parents, that work hard everyday.
Final Reflection: In doing the 10 keys to personal power I have realized how to be better at life with the 10 C's. The 10 C's are; Clarity, Competence, Concentration, Common Sense, Creativity, Consideration, Consistency, Commitment, Courage, and Confidence. Each of them demonstrate a different trait Like for clarity it means to have an open mind and to try new things. Competence is someone who works hard and get the job done with great efficiency. Having concentration while doing any task will benefit you greatly because it will allow you to do the task with time to spare. Having common sense allows you to rationalize ideas

When you’re having lunch jot down your to-do list to recognize where your new found energy will be directed. Life is short, and wasting time on planning it means failing in living it.
Key 4: Common Sense
Everyone should have common sense. One of my old middle school grade teachers always told us. "common sense is a virtue that everyone should have." i never really new what that meant until one day i found out that it meant good sense and sound judgment in practical matters. Basically just to do the right things all the time. you have to train your mind to do the right things, you have to think things through, you got to listen to your intuition & you have to learn from your mistakes/ setbacks. To have common sense is having the ability to think logical and not be worried. When you think logically you'll get through things a lot easier. When I am taking quizzes I use common sense to figure out which answer sounds and is the best if I do not know the answer. Its a good strategy to use because it lowers the odds you getting an answer wrong. Its good to use common sense because it makes you think hard. Using common sense also allows you to do things on your own because you won't be asking people whats the is happening. Common sense is like going with your gut because you are listening to your intuition about things happening. It can also be used in sports when a guy beats you to the ball because hes faster. Then you can use common sense the next time and be a little further away from the ball so you wont get beat by the guys speed. That is how I use common sense when I played soccer for my school. It allowed me to learn from my mistakes and learn what and what not to do. This is useful because you never make the same mistake twice.
Key 5: Creativity
When it comes to creativity its important that you come up with unique ideas. Some people used other peoples ideas and made them better as technology advanced. For example when cultures share thoughts of how to create and make new inventions. The quote above tells us the people who ask the more questions are more creative. I believe that to be true because when you ask questions you learn things you didn't know. And the more you know the more creative you are. Like when someone created the electric scooter. They had to get ideas from the scooter companies, but also from engine experts on what is too big and whats to much horse power. Being creative can also be used when designing clothes. Designers need to create there own brand and not just copy others ideas. I like creativity because it shows me you're unique. It can also be used in sports when the Golden State Warriors created a new brand of basketball playing fast and shooting a lot of 3's.
Key 6: Consideration
"The quality of your relationships with other people will determine your success in life.""Develop the people skills you need to become a better communicator. Take courses in listening, speaking, etc.""If you were to learn one new word a day, within 5 years, you’ll be the best educated person in history."Opening your mind and your heart to new things can mean taking control of your life, and living it fully. The world is not two-dimensional and neither should a person’s perception of the world. If you seek to let in new opportunities those opportunities can open more chances of living life than opposed to never taking any opportunities. Consider your surroundings, this includes your relations, your status in the world, and they way you live life. Is this the way you want to live? How can things change this? Considering the world means opening your mind to more and opening the chance to rethink things. Some people are poison, and often times we don’t see the venom. So recounting the relations you may have, opening your mind you can note the way that some people are not what you previously assumed them to be.Key 7: Consistency
"Dependable, steady predictable work is always superior to fast spurts of work."Be consistent in your relationships, your family, friends, your boss, your work. Be the person that people can depend upon. That if you say you’ll do something you do it.."
Being consistent means being reliable. This factor can get you promotions in work and can get you further ahead and build stronger relations with those you know. Work must be continuous to progress, nothing became of something started, and not repeated and completed. Often being consistent can seem challenging due to outside obstacles constantly changing your path, but remaining and staying means moving forward. In a game for example, when you play and try to achieve the objectives, you can pass many levels and move onward, but if you continue to mess up on a particular round then the game doesn't continue to level up. To move forward in life, you must continue to push forward and try your best.
Key 8: Commitment "No success is possible without commitment.
